The Holy Temple of Saint Dimitriou, in the heart of Edipsos Baths, is one of the most important places of worship in northern Evia and a spiritual beacon for the residents and visitors of the area. It is housed in a prominent position, just a few meters from the coastal avenue, overlooking the endless blue of the Evian Gulf.
Dedicated to St. Dimitrios the Myrovliti, patron saint of Thessaloniki and a symbol of courage and purity, this church is a reference point for the local parish. Here daily masses, sacramental ceremonies and great festivals are held, especially during the celebration of the Saint on 26 October.
The temple stands out for its elegant and traditional architecture. Externally, it features neo-Byzantine elements, a stone-built façade and a bell tower that touches the sky of Edipsos. The interior is dominated by sacred simplicity, with the ornate iconostasis, the hagiographies and the mosaics captivating the visitor’s gaze.
The temple is in perfect harmony with the landscape of Edipso Baths: the scent of incense meets the iodine of the sea, offering an experience of spiritual peace unique in Greece.
The Holy Temple of Saint Dimitriou is not just a place of worship, but a living organism. The parish is very active in social and charitable work, offering:
Sunday schools for children and teenagers
Spiritual study circles for adults
Food distribution and assistance to vulnerable families
Spiritual support and confession
In addition, temple concerts, talks and cultural events are often hosted, making the temple a place of inspiration and creativity.
Edipsos is widely known for its thermal baths, but its religious character is equally important. The Holy Temple of Saint Dimitriou attracts a large number of visitors, especially during the festival period, but also during the summer months, when the stay is combined with a religious pilgrimage.
The ecclesiastical calendar of the parish is full of spiritual activities and services, inviting travellers not only to rest physically in the hot springs of Edipsos, but also to be strengthened mentally.
