War Museum – Chalkida Branch (Evia)
The War Museum – Chalkida Branch is an emblematic place of living history.It is dedicated to the promotion of the war path of the Greek nation and the contribution of Evia to the national struggles. It will operate from 2023 in the historic building of the Infantry School of Chalkida (8 Thrasyvoulou & Papastrati) as the first annex of the War Museum of Athens outside the capital.
The exhibition spaces host:

rare weapons, uniforms, medals, flags and personal belongings of soldiers,

rich archival, photographic and visual material (paintings, dioramas),

the exhibitsare dedicated to the periods of Venetian rule, the 1821 Revolution, the Macedonian Struggle, the Balkan Wars, the two World Wars, the National Resistance, Cyprus 1974 and Greek participation in international peacekeeping missions.
Particularly significant is the inclusion in the exhibition of the historic submarine “Glafkos”, granted by the Region of Central Greece in the summer of 2024 to the Region of Central Greece. With this exhibit, the museum connects naval history with the military past.
Opening hours are Monday to Sunday, 09:00-19:00, with free admission. A virtual 3D tour is also available via the War Museum’s platform.
The museum is a vibrant and multi-purpose venue for cultural & educational events:

organizes experiential programs, thematic workshops and treasure hunts

hosts historical lectures, events of anniversary significance (e.g. “Heroes’ Memories” for the anniversary of “OXI”) in cooperation with the Municipality of Chalkidea

actively participates in the Halkida Maritime Week with guided tours and activities in the area of Agia Paraskevi Facebook.
Educational programs for primary and secondary school students (e.g. on the occasion of 28 October) are regularly organized with very positive reviews Educational Communities & PSD blogs. Collaborates with staff of historians and officers, the Management of the War Museum of Athens, the Region of Central Greece and the Municipality of Chalkidea.
