Megali Ammos Beach Marmari

The famous beach of Evia in Marmari from the spot of the Ministry of Tourism for 2020 is one of the most beautiful beaches of Evia. Several people know it as Golden Beach instead of the official Megali Ammos.

But regardless of what name everyone knows it by, what makes Marmari beach special is that it changes size and shape as the shoreline moves depending on the direction of the wind and waves.

A tongue of sand creates the beach of Megali Ammos Marmari.

It is actually a “tongue” of sand in the waters of the North Evian Sea and the bay of Marmari. The beach is about 250 meters long and quite wide, reaching 60 meters at its largest point. On top of this sand tongue another tongue is created with a southern direction, thus creating yet another small beach better protected from the weather.

In general, however, this beach is famous for its winds that make it a favourite place for water sports enthusiasts. Wind Surfers and Kite Surfers have their honour here with the spot being known worldwide since the European magazines specialized in the sport present it as an ideal spot for athletes and “lovers” of the board.

The beach Megali Ammos Marmari is 115 km from Chalkida, which will take you about 2 hours by car. From Chalkida you head towards South Evia, shortly after Aliveri and at the village of Lepoura turn right towards Karysto (there are signs). The road up to Mesochoria is quite good, from there until just after Styra you need to be careful. See the bus timetable for Marmari.

You can also go to Marmari by ferry from the port of Rafina, which runs the route Marmari – Rafina – Marmari.
