In the early 1980s, the People’s Base Company “SKYROS – MARINE COMPANY” was founded in Skyros with a worldwide participation, which in May of the same year purchased the F / V “Katerina”, 1000 kt. of 1975, which renamed it “Anemoessa” and after a fierce struggle, launched it in September 1980 on the local Kymi – Skyros route, without subsidizing daily itineraries and overnight stays in Kymi. At the same time the F / B “Skyros” was operating the same line with daily routes and overnight to Linaria.
Since 1981 the F / B “Anemoessa” has established two daily services for the summer months in response to and from Kymi KTEL – Euboea buses, while in 1983 with proper refurbishment significantly increased the number of car seats.
In 1983 F / B “Skyros” was permanently withdrawn from the line.
In 1984, the island’s Olympic airline was established on daily flights in summer and three in winter, but was later discontinued. In 1985, the work of the pier at Linaria for the ship’s completion was completed. In 1986 applications were submitted to the Ministry:
a) From the company “SERES HYDROGRAMI” for the summer approach of Skyros on the route V. Sporades and
b) by the company “Grammi North Aegean” for the ferry service on the Kymi – Skyros – V. Sporades route.
These requests, after a reasoned refusal by the Skyros Naval Society, were not accepted, and the F / B “Skyros” license issued in 1988 on the Skyros – Kymi line was revoked every Friday and Sunday.
In December 1988, the Skyros Maritime Company purchased the Norwegian F / B “ULSNES”, 2000 DW, renamed it “Lykomides” and, from the beginning of 1989, launched it on the Kymi-Skyros route in place of the F / B “Anemoessa”. , which he sold.
Since then F / B “Lykomidis” with daily itineraries in winter and two or three itineraries in summer continues to monopolize the service of the local Kimi – Skyros line. In 1995, it continued to operate Dolphin Flight routes with Kymi – Skyros – Sporades approaches that gradually expanded to Volos and Thessaloniki.
It should be noted that with the regular arrivals of the “Lykomidis” departures, the KTEL Evia also arranged the daily bus service to Kymi departing KTEL 3.30 hours before the departure of the ship for Skyros. But the big problem of replacing the “Lycomedes” with a bigger and newer ship has already arisen. Discussions in and out of the maritime general assembly have not reached definitive conclusions. It is certain that the purchase of a modern ship is generally recognized as necessary and urgent in view of the new conditions of the Greek ferry.
Today the Company is proudly operating the Achilles ship. It was manufactured in Japan in 1987 and completely remodeled in Greece in 2004. Since March 2005 it has replaced the ship Lykomides. But it is bigger, faster and has more passenger and vehicle capacity. It also has two tourist lounges and a prominent location, as well as three Bars, one outdoor, on the main deck.
